What is Tinnitus

Tinnitus often sounds like a ringing, buzzing, or chirping in the ears and is, in most cases, a high-frequency noise.

Subjective tinnitus is a sign of damage somewhere in the auditory system – the outer ear, middle ear, inner ear, or the brain. It is a perceived or phantom sound that has no identifiable source.

Tinnitus is far more common than people think. Tinnitus represents a major global condition with prevalence rates of 10 - 20% of the population. There is no cure for tinnitus, but it’s important to know there are methods that can help to manage or alleviate tinnitus, such as sound therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy.

Finding a doctor or an audiologist that specialises in and understands tinnitus can make a huge difference in managing your tinnitus going forward. We advise people with tinnitus to consult their doctor before undertaking any treatment. Local tinnitus groups are also an excellent source of support and community. Find your nearest one here.

How SoundRelief Works

Sound therapy is a type of sensory training aimed at modifying the brain signals associated with tinnitus. Decreasing these signals in the brain decreases the levels of tinnitus experienced. Different types of sound therapies do this in slightly different ways – either by masking or covering the sounds or by eliminating the tinnitus for a period of time.

SoundRelief is a form of sound therapy which uses low-frequency sounds to alleviate tinnitus. SoundRelief is unique in using low-frequency sound for its therapeutic benefit.

The efficacy of SoundRelief was determined in a clinical trial of 300 people. Two-thirds of those with subjective tinnitus receive a beneficial effect using SoundRelief for 5 minutes a day on a daily basis. Those who saw an improvement reported a 20% reduction in their tinnitus severity in the first month of usage. The clinical trial was completed on participants who had tinnitus for 15 years or less.
